Highlights of 1988 included :-
RBL YOUTH FESTIVAL In 1988 the Royal British Legion appointed its first National Youth Officer and one of the results of this was a much enlarged Festival of Youth and Music. It was held in Malvern in Worcestershire and the Band played along side other RBL Bands from Romford, Surbiton, Penhill, Worcester County and Lutterworth.
BIRTHDAY SURPRISE During the year a most pleasant event was the surprise performance given to Richard Waite an RBL Branch member. It took place outside his bungalow to mark his 80th birthday. A former RSM and registered as blind he was delighted to have his own performance from the Band he loved.
PERFORMANCES Once again the Band made appearances at formal RBL events as well as local Fetes and Carnivals including Banbury, Wallingford and Lutterworth where the Band got absolutely SOAKED in a cloud burst. However the organisers did present a winners rosette. ( I think for endurance but thanks anyway, its nice to be appreciated) SOCIAL In June the Band held a very successful BBQ evening which brought together many families and friends of the Band. Particularly popular was the Horse racing game played with giant chess pieces and a pair of dice. The Band's special 'family atmosphere' continued to develop.
